This Week’s Update
1) “Haven’t we forgotten Energy Security? – Impact of Shale Gas Revolution” (in Japanese. English translation coming soon). Article based on Agora Channel broadcast on May 17th, “Energy Policy - Now is the time for a shift: Shale revolution saves Japan ” inviting Nobuo Tanaka, former Executive Director of International Energy Agency, a talk with Nobuo Ikeda, Director, Agora. Essence of the discussion was that with progress of shale gas revolution, environment surrounding global energy is changing significantly. Mr. Tanaka analyzes current situation in Japan with stop of nuclear, depending energy supply on thermal power as “The risk on the supply side is increasing”. He appeals for the importance of considering energy issue with wide view, that “Japan should examine diversification of the energy supply, while considering impact of the shale gas revolution”.
2) ”Concern for unscientific action of Nuclear Regulation Authority”. (in Japanese). Contribution by Noriyuki Morimoto, President, HC Asset Management, who has been criticizing unscientific and unfair situation of nuclear administration. NRA is not discussing permissible level of risks but administrating by demanding operating companies impossible “absolute safety”. Furthermore, the government is neglecting this recklessness. In order to consider the current situation, this article provides fair and appropriate point at issue.
3) “Fukushima Exhibition held at the Chernobyl Museum: To change the lessons of the two accidents into hopes for the future"(in Japanese). Contribution by Yukiko Miyakoshi, researcher of Osaka University graduate school, who resides in Kiev. Like the Fukushima accident in 2011, 1986 Chernobyl accident in the same way caused trouble to many people and confused the community. Chernobyl Museum in Kiev will hold Fukushima exhibition from June. Comparing with Chernobyl, it seems the present situation in Fukushima that the victims cannot return home 2 years after the accident is considered “wrong”.
